Doctor of Arts thesis
Throughout its history Western opera has been in the forefront of embracing emergent representation technologies and making them part of its expressive vocabulary. In my doctoral thesis I look at the ways in which the mobile medium now continues this process.
This artistic research focuses on lessons learned from the experimental opera Omnivore (2012), which was conceived and produced for mobile delivery. The study examines what kind of ontological notions the mobile medium sensitizes in opera, what is particular about the artwork's multidisciplinary creative process, and ultimately, what kind of thought trajectories does the experience suggest for future creation of opera using mobile technologies.
The research is published in the Acta Universitatis Lapponiensis series.
